So I don’t know what it is about today. I’m not a superstitious person, in fact I tend to make fun of such people. But today was one of those days that makes you wonder.
* a friend from work was without water at his house this morning
* my parents’ water heater quit working today
* a friend’s beloved pet passed away today
* my car broke. twice.
Now, these are all good people here (I like to think of myself as a force for Good, though being one of those moustache-twirling stereotypical evil people could be fun too…) and by my reckoning, there shouldn’t be any sort of karmic involvement at the personal level for any of these folks. Except maybe for me, being in technical Customer Service tends to play havoc with the karma. But I’ve been nice lately.
Remember that superstition I lightly mocked earlier? Well, it’s nagging at me to think that maybe all these things, today being what it is, are some sort of karmic retribution for letting Bush and Company run roughshod over Iraq and the whole range of civil liberties for the last six years.
So, I’m having a glass of Viognier. Well, maybe two.
It’s also worthwhile to add that while I was standing on the corner that my car died on the second time, no less than eight people offered to help me out. Eight in forty minutes. I was pleasantly surprised.
Emergency flares are cool.
