Jews for Jesus. They’re everywhere. One of them handed me a flyer today. The flyer had a picture of an old woman on it, with a quote that said “Before you dismiss my beliefs, listen to my reasons” or something like that. She was/is a Holocaust survivor. Talk about an appeal to an inappropriate authority… Elie Wiesel had an important theological revelation after his experiences in the camps … coming to accept Jesus into a Jewish worldview is not a revelation. It’s a conversion. People who follow the Old Testament of the Bible (read: Jews) that accept Jesus (who appears in Bible, Act II: The New Testament) (read: Christians) are… Christians. That’s what we call a fundamental divide. You’ll never see Christians accepting Muhammad as a prophet … that’s where most of the division between the religions comes in. It’s like Buddhists accepting a materialist Hindu view. Sure, both groups accept parts of the old Vedic teachings, but they’re very very different.

Jews for Jesus are, at the very most, entertaining. Much like the preachers that come to campus and are offended by the preponderance of exposed skin, alcohol and sexual imagery, and the like. Wrong audience, wrong message.

Yeah.

“Roman Catholic and Orthodox clerics have exchanged blows inside Jerusalem’s Church of the Holy Sepulchre, one of Christianity’s holiest sites.

The punch-up began after Greek and Russian Orthodox believers took offence at a door left open by members of the Franciscan order during a service.” (link)

Silly Christians.

Usually I like to take things out of context to make people look stupid. This isn’t taken out of context … they made themselves look dumb all by … themselves.

It’s over.

So, Rush is over and I officially have no idea what to do with myself. Gone are the interim minutes spent dashing off emails and conjuring documents and data. So here I sit in Starbucks, actually blogging for the first time in too long.

I’m quite happy with the folks that are interested in joining Lambda Chi. We’re still at a loss as to what to call them. Aspiring Associate Members? Pre-Associate Members? N00bs? But they seem like a great bunch of guys.

Apple Computer continues to please me (because, as the solipsist would posit, I am all that matters*). Recently, Mike’s iBook logic board died again (jeez, just call it the motherboard…) and Apple replaced it, out of warranty, and mailed it back to my place (as Mike was in Hawaii) four days later. The tech at the Apple store did a disturbing thing when we took the computer in — iBook CPR. He actually did chest compressions on the lower left of the computer. This caused the screen to come back to life. He’s cool.

My Gmail cup runneth over — if I know you and you’d like a Gmail account, let me know .. they’re freely available until I run out. 1GB of email space and a chance at a cool username (unlike this JCitizen938472348250258902347542309847235042375029445238709423@aol.com nonsense). My gmail address is (in a manner to foil the despicable spambots out there) my first name dot my last name at gmail dot com. Someone needs to do something about these spam people so we can express our email addresses in proper form again.

And it occurs to me that I need to redesign my blog. It faced criticism (ahem Chanpory) from the beginning, but now its starting to sink in that it looks weird for some reason.

I’m in a weird mood for some reason. I think it has to do with the fact that I’ve been eating healthy and taking vitamins and drinking water and gave up coffee (mostly). Maybe I’m actually feeling alert for the first time in a while. But yeah.

“And so I close, realizing that perhaps the ending has not yet been written.” - (name the source and win a .. a .. gmail account?)

*note tongue in cheek humor

rush week madness

It’s Rush week. It’s madness. But it’s good so far.

In other news, not much has been happening… just settling into the groove of the school year. Might post some photos in the near future if I get a chance.

iFrat

So as my schedule for the school year begins to congeal, I’m finding myself with a tad more free time that I thought I’d have, which means … time for homework. Which is nice. I just got out of my first Rules Committee meeting, the board of the Associated Students that makes sure the rules get followed. It was pretty fun. I don’t think I get business cards for that job though. I’ve accumulated quite a number of titles though. I wish I could keep them on a shelf or something, so I could only carry around one at a time.

But yeah.

According to the news, scientists found a water signature on the crazy-huge planet circling a star in the constellation Hydrae. Which is kinda cool. I wonder if scientists on their planet have already discovered us. Maybe they’re already trying to communicate with us. That would explain the large volume of seemingly unintelligible data coming into my email inbox. Wouldn’t it be weird if the aliens called themselves V1agr1a or

i’m baaaaaack

It’s that time again, the time when my conscience overtakes my laziness and I blog anew. What’s my defense? I’ve been busy. So … um … there. Yeah, so there.

But seriously folks, it’s been a rather busy, erm, month. I came down here on the 9th of August and I’ve been ‘on’ ever since. I began with work, for RezCon, the little itty bitty division of the University that deals with Internet access in the Residence Halls. Not Dorms, mind you… Residence Halls. That wasn’t too bad, getting everything set up. And then They came.

The Freshmen moved in last Friday, a flood of naievety or however you spell it. It’s always amusing to watch them move in, with their dreams of perfect communities and meshing with their roommates. And then they see their room. And meet their roommate. And experience what it’s like to live with fifty or so people that they’ve never met. And then they realize that they can’t get their precious illegal music and movies as easily, and that they’re suddenly subject to rules for accessing the internet. I love it.

Classes are going well. They all seem somewhat interesting so far, unlike last year with the fun Accounting debacle.

I notice that I haven’t had as much opportunity to skim the news lately, as I’ve been doing other things. So I looked at the news earlier and realized that not a whole lot of newsworthy things are going on. Sure, there’s a hurricane with the horrid name ‘Frances’ (meteoroligical gender identity issues?) and a siege of some kind in Russia, but Florida always has hurricanes (they never learn…) and Russia always has unstable lunatics attacking innocent people (see: Stalin, Joe). And the Republicans are in New York, constantly involing September 11th, as if their invocations have some sort of moral weight.
