rain

I like driving in the rain. I think it’s the intermittent clarity that I like the best. Everything is so crisp and clean after the wipers whisk away the raindrops.

Got back from Sacramento today… an interesting trip overall with a nice trip home in the middle.

It’s getting late, so I’ll have to write more about it tomorrow.

I was walking to class this morning, feeling pretty good (for getting four hours of sleep) and I was kind of mouthing the words being fed into my head by my iPod. People started looking at me funny. So I kept doing it. It was interesting, almost cathartic, to have that feeling that I was having more fun than the other people were.

I took my Economics test this morning, instead of Friday morning. It was pretty cool. The professor is Thai and cool. I have a feeling this is the first test she’s ever administered. But it was ok. The tricky question involved factors of production of chocolate and watch.

So Kristina has my power adapter, which means I get to run my battery down and then take notes on paper (sooo last century…) Her iBook for some reason refuses to charge, and hopefully my power adapter remedies the situation … she’d much rather spend $71 for a new adapter than $1700 for a new notebook.

I’m going to Sacramento this weekend to lobby legislators. The position of the group I’m going with (CSSA) is ‘no student fee increases’, which is entirely illogical and many of us plan on just talking to legislators in a realistic tone … supporting necessary, reasonable, and predictable fee increases. I personally believe we should be paying a little more than 2% of the cost of our education .. but apparently the idea of actually paying for something is too much for some of the bleeding-heart hyperliberals here to comprehend. You get what you pay for, and if these people keep using money to ‘diversify’ my classes, I’ll have a hell of a diverse class with no professor in it. Access takes a back seat to quality in my book… We shouldn’t limit access, we should simply not spend $52 million a year on remedial classes that should be (and can be) taken at community colleges (or high school! who graduates without taking algebra!) at a much lower cost. Anyway, that’s enough of that.

Lisa’s here, and she brought me Starbucks (iced grande triple nonfat no-whip mocha). Shut up, it’s easier to order down the boxes. Seriously.

welcome, viewers

So it’s come to my attention that I have new readers of the blog. Welcome.

This also means that I get to update it more regularly now, which is something I really ought to do anyway. So I rant:

I’ve reaffirmed my belief that local news is bad for people. Tonights headlines: fire at a tortilla factory, and SUV in a pool in Florida, cheap gas zones, a French woman marrying her dead boyfriend, and a revealing expose of low-carb foods (of all the restaurants tested, only Subway had significant misstatements in their carbs). These things all affect me very strongly. Like Mars. Very important to my personal daily existence.

In other television things, NASCAR people are advertising Viagra (time to get a better car, buddy…), and there’s this show called Karen Sisco on USA at 12:15 that looks amazingly terrible. I’m watching it now.

The cable went out, and I think I’m better off for it. I couldn’t figure out the Karen Sisco show, so I won’t really miss the end of it.

In other news, there’s a new fraternity seeking colonization at SDSU. It’s called Lambda Chi Alpha and is based on leadership. I’m investigating it. Will report later.

Looks like its about bedtime … need to get up a little earlier tomorrow; Lisa and Mike are coming to Cuic with me for breakfast. Thanks, California taxpayers!

february madness

Right. So, I haven’t blogged in a while, and now I have about an hour between classes, so I’ll try to fill in what’s been going on lately. Let’s go in reverse… Set the Way-Back machine for Friday night…

Dad came down Friday and took us (Mike, Lisa, Adelle) out to dinner. It was really good to see dad, and I think the dinner was enjoyed by all. Following the dinnner, Adelle, Lisa, their friends Jeff and Chris and I went to On Broadway. I suppose that previous statement could be expressed mathematically as [((Lisa+Adelle(Jeff+Chris))+Me]. I’m a nerd. Anyway, it was great to go out … we had a lot of fun, and it was really nice having Adelle down here again. It was also rather neat meeting and talking to Jeff and Chris. Plus the $5 admission wasn’t too bad. I wish the DJ spun more than deep house (boom-boom-boom-boom). I want to go back Feb 25, when DJ Ferry Corsten (Dutch superstar!) is going to be there.

Before last week, things are kind of a haze of busy-ness and chaos as 34,000 students came back to school and tried to cram themselves into about seven course sections. My schedule for this semester isn’t too bad, though it starts kind of earlier than I’d like (9 am). I’ve got National Security Policy, Nuclear Security, Conflict and Conflict Resolution (group madness, etc.), World Economic Problems, and Accounting. Yep, Accounting. Also have a superfun 1-unit Geography lab. If I miss a class session, I fail. I need it to graduate. Go me.

On the upside, I’m finally taking classes in my major, and they’re all pretty interesting.

Umm… I watched the Superbowl sporadically, and the people I was watching with were angry that the cat-people-team lost. And what are the odds that the kicker guy for the other team would make the field goal? Weird.
