Well, as luck would have it, the marine layer scrubbed the smoke from our skies and allowed the campus to open tomorrow. It figures.. it’s my long day. But I have my PowerBook, so at least I can take notes in style.

In other news, I’ve discovered the root cause of the San Diego fires: car wash owners. It is my theory that car wash owners colluded to start fires, blanketing the city with ash. What does everyone need after that? A car wash….

I booked my flight to England today, in preparation for attending the Oxford Winter Programme. It’s amazing… I can sit at the same pub table that John Locke sat at.

It’s getting late, and I should sleep.

fire

So apparently there’s this fire going on in San Diego county. Some people found out by listening to or watching the news. How did I find out? I was at the airport and they said that all of the flights into San Diego were cancelled. It didn’t take a genius to figure out why. So I’m at home for another day until (hopefully) the airport will be operational again.

For those of you that haven’t heard… SDSU is closed tomorrow. That’s right, for the first time since September 11, 2001, the campus is C-L-O-S-E-D.

As of this writing, 14 people have died in the fires, and hundreds of homes have been destroyed. This is why we need steel homes.

itunes

It’s time for a shameless Apple plug: iTunes is just really, really neat.

“…Apple simply provides a better music program, whose sole (but not surprising) shortfall is its lack of Windows Media compatibility. In iTunes, Apple has accomplished what has eluded the entire PC market — it’s shipped a free, elegant, easy-to-use program that copies CDs in either AAC or MP3 format, offers numerous, thoughtful ways to organize a music library, lets you buy music conveniently, plays back Web radio and burns CDs and even DVDs — and does it all without turning your desktop into a billboard for other products and services.” -washingtonpost.com

…yeah, but who really uses Windows Media anyway?

Download iTunes now!

home

So I’m at home, and it’s nice to be back. My grandfather, who has been having heart issues, is recovering very well.

I got my PowerBook today! Yay! It’s great. I’ll have to show it to you some time.

I should get to bed now.. more updates later.

FINALLY

Well, my blog finally works again, thanks to the nice folks at OC Hosting. Evidently something happened with the permissions on the CGI script that talks to the SQL server… oh dear, I’ve gone crosseyed. Important thing is, it works.

ANYWAYS…

What’s happened in the month or so i’ve been MIA? Well..

I got a new phone. The Nokia 8260 wasn’t cutting it for me anymore, so I picked up a Sony Ericsson T616. Its features will nicely complement the Apple Powerbook that is due to arrive tomorrow morning. My favorite feature: Bluetooth. It lets me synchronize the contacts on my phone with my computer, and to use the internet through my cellphone when I’m on the road or in the middle of nowhere. I also picked up an iPod (20GB) which is, if I may say so, a bitchin’ piece of work. It’s amazing, and everyone seems to have one now anyway. In a similar vein, iTunes for Windows was released, which is also just completely cool. (yaaay Apple!)

Life-wise, not much has changed… still your general single underfunded college student. I added a Darwin fish to my car, at great expense ($6), and I’ve started to collect bumperstickers with meaningful or entertaining messages.

I’ve added to my wishlist, if anyone is willing to donate:

  • J Crew travel bag (the old one doesn’t cut it anymore)
  • GAP jeans (I fell in)
  • A real razor (getting tired of Mach3, and I figure it’s worth a shot)
  • Oxford Winter Programme (why take the class at SDSU when I can take it at Oxford in less time and become a member of the college? Hm? ‘I recall fondly my days at Oxford…’)
  • Other than that, I’m sure I missed something… Perhaps I’ll remember it later… and write it on my new PowerBook. Yay Apple.
